Scott Burrell has been the head coach of the Summer Hill Barracudas since the summer of 2003. Prior to coaching at Summer Hill, Scott coached Oconee County summer league teams at Jennings Mill Country Club and North West Woods. During the 2003-2004 school year, Scott began coaching high school swimming at his alma mater, Oconee County High School. The following year, Scott was hired as the head coach of North Oconee High School’s Swimming and Diving Team where he has served since the school opened. Additionally, Scott has USAS coaching experience with the Athens Area Aquatics Association, and he coached the Oconee County Parks and Recreation All-Star Team from 2000-2004.
As a summer league coach, Scott has led his teams to six county championships (NWW-3; SH-3). During this time, he has coached numerous county champions, county record holders, and state champions. As a high school coach, he led North Oconee to its first ever area championships in 2010 and 2011 and he received the NOHS “Coach of the Year” honor for the 2009-2010 school year.
Scott began his swimming career at age 7. He swam competitively throughout middle and high school for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club, Oconee County High School, and various summer league teams. In Scott’s final summer league state meet, while competing for the Oconee County All-Star Team, he broke records in the 50 breast stroke and the 100 IM. Scott currently still holds the GRPA state record in the 50 yard breast stroke for the 15-18 age group. After high school, Scott earned a swim scholarship to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington where he helped lead his team to its first ever conference championships during his junior and senior years. During his senior year, he served as team captain.
Scott has a B.S. degree in Accounting from UNC-Wilmington, a M.Ed. in Secondary Math Education from UGA, and an Ed.S in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. Currently, Scott teaches 7th Grade Math and Social Studies at Malcom Bridge Middle School. When he is not working, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisha, and his sons, Luke and Beau.
Adam Sasso is currently at the University of Georgia as an Athletic Training and Pre-Med student. He started his swimming career at the age of 8, swimming year round for the Columbus Aquatics Swim Team in Columbus, GA. After swimming in Columbus for 3 years, he then swam for another year for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club. He then decided to continue to swim for all four years of high school, both for Oconee his freshman year and North Oconee the following 3 years, while competing at several GHSA State Championships.
Adam has been coaching competitive swimming in both summer league and in the year-round settings for 5 years. He has been both a summer league Oconee All-star assistant coach and, in 2011, the Oconee All-Star Head Coach. Adam has been a U.S.A Swimming coach for the past 5 years and has been, and currently is, coaching for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club where he has had the opportunity to coach and run practices for the top swimmers in the state and country, in both the age group level, senior level, and the Division I Collegiate level.
Andrea Pugh went to Mill Creek High School in Gwinnett County. She swam all 4 years where she learned her love for swimming. Andrea specialized in breaststroke where she qualified for state her last 3 years. During high school Andrea was an assistant coach for the summer league team, Hidden Falls. Now she is a sophomore at UGA where she is studying to be a Middle School teacher in the future, and she is an active member of Relay for Life there. In her spare time Andrea loves to hang out with friends, eat good food, and watch good movies. :]

Rebecca “Becca” Thorpe
Becca Thorpe grew up in Marietta, Georgia. She swam competitively at Sprayberry High School for four years and was a team captain her junior and senior year. Becca has worked as a lifeguard for seven years. She is lifeguard, first aid and CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross. Becca taught swim lessons at the East Cobb YMCA for five years, and she currently works as a swim instructor at Summer Hill.
Becca moved to Athens in 2006 to attend the University of Georgia, where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While at UGA Becca mentored through Crosstrainers Mentoring Program, was on the Family Relations committee for UGA Heroes, and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Becca now teaches Pre-K at Whit Davis Elementary in Clarke County. She enjoys spending time at the lake, taking Zumba classes, doing outdoor activities, and being with family and friends.
